Your murder mystery party or dinner party game is printable as soon as you have downloaded it.
All of our murder mysteries are great fun to play and are also ideal for home printing as they are attractively formatted without being ink-heavy.
All come with a very good range of theme-specific printouts that can be used to decorate your dinner table and party space.
Some hosts use their home printer - others email the pre-party and party documents to their guests for each person to print their own. (Alternatively, some guests choose to view party materials electronically.)

How Do I Print My Murdering Mystery Game?
Party materials such as the invitations and clues are just printed as normal.
The Host Instructions, Pre-Party Booklet and Party Booklets can all be easily printed to make neat, easy-to-hold booklets. ALL booklets have been designed to print two pages of content per physical sheet of paper. (This halves the amount of paper you need when printing!)
Booklets are best printed double-sided but single-sided printers can also be used.Alternatively, if required, booklets can be viewed electronically on iPads etc.
The printing instructions (below) are all given as part of your party kit.
1 Printing Double-Sided Booklets
For printers that support double-sided printing, it's easy-peasy to print the host instructions, pre-party and party booklets:
1 Select Booklet
2 Open Properties Tab
From within the Properties tab, select:
3 Two-sided (Duplex) Printing
4 With the "Print on Both Sides" dropdown, select "Yes, Flip Over". With some printers, this is not available so select the "Flip on Short Edge" dropdown.
5 Click OK to close the Properties tab and then click "Print". The printer will now arrange the pages to be in the correct order once the booklets are folded.
6 Once printed, staple twice down the middle and fold down the middle.
That's it! Very easy. No cutting and pasting required!
Tip: to save time, we often set all pre-party and party booklets to print and then staple and fold them one by one at the end.
2 Printing Single-Sided (Easiest Method)
Many customers just print on A4 paper without trying to make a booklet. (American and Canadian customers use Letter paper or P4 paper.) The end result is not as neat - but it is the quickest and easiest solution.
Important Tip: our Party Booklets, Pre-Party Booklets and Host Booklets have all been designed to print TWO pages of content per physical sheet of paper. Simply selecting the print options below will halve the amount of paper you need!
1 Use Multiple setting.
2 With the Pages per sheet dropdown, select 2.
3 With the Orientation radio buttons, select Portrait.
4 Click Print.
5 Staple
Optionally, you may cut into A5 sheets and then staple into an A5 booklet.
3 Printing Single-Sided Booklets (Best Method for Neat Booklets)
For single-sided printers, you can still create neat booklets for host instructions, pre-party booklets and party booklets by performing a couple of extra steps.
1 Select booklet
2 For the "booklet subset" dropdown, select the "Back side only" dropdown
3 Print and then - keeping pages printed side up but in reverse order (page 4, 3, 2 and then 1) - place pages back in printer.
4 Select Booklet.
5 For the "booklet subset" dropdown, select the "Front side only" dropdown.
6 Click "Print".
7 Once printed, staple twice down the middle and fold down the middle.
Tip: printing the back side of the sheets then the front side means they end up in the right order to be stapled.
Party Printables for Each Murder Mystery Game
For each murder game, your party pack has optional theme-specific printables so that you have some easy decorations for your party space and table. Examples include themed:
- Posters
- Slang relating to the murder mystery
- Other theme-specific printouts such as crate labels (for a speakeasy) or record labels (Swinging Sixties and 70s Disco)
- Wine labels
- Internal room signs
- External signs
- Dinner table place settings
- Menus
All are designed to be attractive without having large swatches of bold, saturated colours that will guzzle your ink. For example, we reduce the amount of ink needed by lightening the backgrounds of some printouts or using a white background with a small border.
All printouts will print onto A4 paper; some themes also offer an additional version of menus and invitations in a smaller A5 size.
A Few Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Printing is Required Per Player?
Some guests are happy to view the party materials electronically. For virtual parties, many hosts email the pre-party and party documents to their guests and let them choose whether to view them electronically or to print them themselves.
For face-to-face (non-virtual) games, the host often emails the pre-party booklets and invitations to their guests and then prints the party booklets and clues.
Essential Documents Per Player - Documents will Need Printing if Not Viewed Electronically:
- Pre-party character booklets - 1 sheet of A4 (if printed double-sided) or 2 sheets of A4 (if single-sided).
- Party character booklets - 4 double-sided sheets of A4 (if double-sided) or 8 sheets of A4 (if single-sided).
- Clues - 0-3 pages per player (if Virtual) or 6-9 pages per game (if At Home).
Recommended Document Per Player - Document will Need Printing if Not Viewed Electronically:
- Invitations - 1 sheet of A4. (Some games give additional A5 variations with two invites per A4 page.)
Optional Printing
There are other materials that can be printed if you wish:
- name tags
- table place settings
- menus
- decorations
- duplicate map and accusation sheet
- duplicate clues for the host (virtual games only)
- fake money (selected games only)
A4 Paper, Letter Paper and P4 Paper - Sizes
All party materials are designed for A4 printing but many American and Canadian customers have used Letter paper or P4 paper.
A4 paper is 8.25 x 11.75 inches or 210 x 297 mm.
In America, Letter paper is 8.3 x 11.7 inches or 215.9 x 279.4 mm.
In Canada, P4 paper is 8.5 x 11.0 inches or 215 x 280 mm.
What Typefaces are Used?
For the bulk of the booklets and also for the clues, we use Calibre font as this is easy to read. Some headings use theme-specific fonts.
I Don't Have a Printer - Can I Still Host a Murder Mystery?
Some people are happy to view their party booklets, clues and pre-party booklets on an iPad or mobile so, for these guests, you can have a murdering mystery with no need for printing.
Others find that one of their guests has a printer and will be happy to print for you.
Do I Need to Print in Colour - or Can I Use Black and White?
All of our party materials are provided in colour as this looks more attractive. However, the most important text is always in black (for ease of reading). It is therefore perfectly fine to use black and white printing.
The only time that colour-coding is ever used is for the different sections of the host instructions. Even then, black and white printing could be used.
