Pep Guardiola has expressed concern over Manchester City's over-reliance on Erling Haaland, despite his impressive goal-scoring form. Haaland's 10th and 11th Premier League goals of the season helped City secure a 2-0 victory over Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. However, Guardiola emphasized the need for other players to step up and share the goal-scoring burden.
Haaland's performance in the second half was a stark contrast to the first 45 minutes, where City squandered numerous opportunities. Guardiola acknowledged Haaland's exceptional talent, stating, 'He could have scored four or five at the end. He's our key man.' Yet, he also stressed the importance of collective effort, urging other players to take responsibility for scoring.
The City boss pointed out that while Haaland has 11 league goals, no other City player has more than one so far this season. He specifically mentioned Savinho, Jérémy Doku, and Tijjani Reijnders for their missed opportunities, stating, 'The chances we create are so clear. They have to score goals. Savinho had two [chances], Jeremy had two, Tijjani had another one and they have to score at that level.'
Guardiola concluded by emphasizing the need for the team to improve their goal-scoring efficiency, stating, 'We have to score more. If we don't create it's fine, but when we create we have to score. They know it. We talk about it for a long time. In the training sessions, they are good at finishing, so they have to do it.'
